Hard stone softly turned at the edges
Together, our home and our pride
Our friends and our family are welcomed with joy
Unwelcome, some others, defied.
Centuries old, reminders of wars
Which waged both to kill and to plunder
Yet still we stand strong, resolute and prepared
while others gaze on us, and wonder.
A Norman Face with Celtic Roots
rebuilt on Viking embers
With Scots and English engineers
The moulded architecture now remembers.
Civil War and deadly plague
and cannonballs like thunder
Goddodin folk, Northumbrians,
They'll scatter all asunder.
The Great Crusades, a Forster home,
for centuries the keeper,
thence into Armstrong's tight embrace
defying every wanton reaper.
Bernicia, we might recall,
the Kingdom steeped in folklore
this fort, it's Capital retreat
its might and valour to the core.
The flower of youth, heroic age,
those many, mighty battles,
cast down like bluebells underfoot
wind gusts, and sometimes rattles.
In Peacetime, tranquil, holding sure
This Castle telling tales.
Build on success, and fortify
withstand both time and nasty gaels!
