On stony steps above the
loch the sentinel stands still
Surrounded by his clansmen and the shepherds on the hill
Strong and armed and stalking, watching, waiting to fulfill
Duty, Black as night , yet clearly seen at dusk, the kill.
Castle Stalker, hunter,
Man, protector of the glen
Marking out the boundary, the Scots lion in his den.
Lying, waiting, aiming, tense, and weathered, guns of many men;
What? It does not matter for what matters most is when
Eternal truth and daily
change, charge up or gently lie.
The whites of eyes, the yellow warmth, the reds of ‘do or die’;
Its multi coloured frowns of cloud all beg the question ‘why?’
Tonight it seems quite
angry, like a temper-blazing fire
Yet even that is beautiful, the anger of desire?
A mercenary stalker, fleeting, temporary hire
To sit for his lone portrait and await the ready buyer!
A dramatic, fiery sunset in the distant middle right, lights the dark clouds. Castle Stalker and its surrounding Islands are stark black over the Loch water, which reflects the fiery sunset clouds.
