Ben Nevis and Inverlochy Castle Hotel
Up there in the Sky, up there towards Mars
The peak of the highest of mountains of ours!
Our Greatest Munro, some eight hours to Ascend,
Has a difficult slope and then one with a bend!
The Gaelic for ‘Mountain malicious intent’
its venomous route is a snake that can vent
all the fury of those who are not at all fit
And have to stop off, pause and puff or just sit!
The easiest way is to climb on the back
of a calm Shetland pony, enjoying the hack.
But once you’ve ascended the hill to its peak
the view is breath-taking – well, I couldn’t speak!
Its pleasure is taking the mountain half-done
And some people run to the summit for fun!
But coming back down can be harder on knees
And nearer the base there are nasty midges….
That’s just in case walkers have frightened the game
or the Haggis that hops, stilted legs, slightly lame,
they wander the heather with neeps in their mouth
and tatties, or so those up North less the South!
Yet once you have climbed and enjoyed all the views
You’ll very much welcome this part of the news:
The Bar that is best, is much more than a bothy
Just go to the Castle Hotel ‘Inverlochy’!
