Blessed Shakespeare poem by Francis Salvesen 25 January 2021
Blessed Shakespeare, what a saint
King Lear was such a sinner!
Indulging in munificence
Bequeaths his daughter’s dinner!
A Royal kingdom ruled upon
Two daughters want the stuffing
The first two fawn, declaring love
The quiet third, she gets nothing!
A National Treasure, Good King Lear
The actor – and the writer –
For played by Blessed Brian on stage
The limelight gets no brighter!
A British trait, this Shakespeare thing:
We worship and adore him
With laughter, love and tragedy
The last time that I saw him!
And Blessed …loud…articulate
A power house of strife!
His rancour and his belly laughs
Are larger than his life!
