La Sylphide

Here you see the great pairing of Hugo Marchant with Amandine Albisson in Pierre Lacotte’s production at the Royal Opera House, only I have painted them amongst the stars, which seems even more appropriate, up there on the roof! Thankfully, it isn’t all glass!

The Royal Ballet started in Sadlers Wells in 1931 and transferred to the Royal Opera House after the War, in 1946. Since then it alternates with Opera providing sublime entertainment. I was lucky enough to befriend several Ballerinas in my youth who patiently educated me in the intricacies of classical dance. I have always loved dance anyway, though never with much skill! Over the years I have grown to admire the movement and timing, the extraordinary acting skills and facial expressions as well as the gentle flows of rhythm.
