Here I have painted the beautiful Persephone, pondering her fate after eating six pomegranate seeds. Beautiful enough to tempt a God, and thus tempt fate just by being irresistible. Many young girls love the idea of conquering a powerful man – but few would wish for the God of the Underworld!

According to Greek mythology, Persephone had to spend six months in Hades, deep underground, with the God who adored her
and six months with her Mother Demeter, Goddess of Fertility and Harvest.

this story explains, to the Ancient Greek audience, why we have Winter and Summer seasons.

So here I have mixed Abstraction, Introspection, absorption of fate, contemplation of the future.

There is the mix of realism and impressionism; abstract thought and hedonism; Christian hope in Marriage and Nihilism. Both Stoic and Epicurean.
