Pulpit Rock (Orange) by Francis Salvesen July 2018

An Orange haze
For Orange days
At Pulpit’s Rock, in Dorset

The Sermon sounds
The out of bounds
As seas crash from the Sunset.

The Moral maze
Of proper ways
The tide of right and wrong
The pool of sun,
The pull of fun
Wherever congregations throng.

The light and sound
Upon the ground
The cloudy, coloured sky
From young to old
What we are told
We do, and wonder why.

The beauty here
To disappear
As sun drags day to night
Resplendent truth
The rock, aloof,
Will write in black and white.

Be happy, smile
And gaze awhile
The waves, your moral dancer
You will discern
As tides will turn
For each, there is one answer.

And focus: sea
What you will be
And how to play the game
From where you look
This picture book

It’s never quite the same.

Pulpit Rock, Dorset, purple water crashing in the bright fiery sunset.

Pulpit Rock is a coastal feature at Portland Bill, the southern tip of the Isle of Portland, Dorset, England. Representing an open bible leaning on a pulpit, Pulpit Rock was formed in the 1870s after a natural arch was cut away by quarrymen at Bill Quarry.
